In Another Life
There once lived a girl. She was a really gifted person, exceptionally brilliant for her age, and was always at the top of her class. She was a person who always preferred to be alone, and distanced herself from everyone, though she never understood why she did that.
There was one thing she hated about herself...she wasn’t as good in athletics as she was in everything else. She tried so hard to be devoted to one sport and she pushed herself to her limits in order to achieve so. She finally was smitten by the game of ice hockey.
Even at ice hockey practice, she was always alone. She distanced herself from everyone even though she knew she ought to stop that habit. She then decided to search for a best friend. She then took a slight detour, and found a friend in music. She fell in love with it. She dreamt of contributing to the world of music...where she felt she truly belonged.
She was quite a fan girl. Once she was fascinated with a personality, she immersed herself with knowledge about that person. She loved Hollywood musicians in particular. She worked hard to make herself a person worthy enough to be known worldwide as a musician. She went to international reality shows, got signed in by huge talent agencies, tours with huge stars, and completely devoted herself to the wonderful art of music.
Music became something very important to her. It made her a completely different person. She felt she should spread the greatness of music by becoming a singer. One of her only talents she was actually proud of. It was something that helped her connect with people and other things, like writing, listening skills, understanding people, and psychology.
She was very fascinated with the concept of psychology and the workings of the human mind. She found it very interesting, studying the attention cycles of different people, and seeing more psychological patterns in different cases of serial killers. Psychology helped her understand more of the human mind but she never had enough volunteers to test out her theories.
Even though music was very important, for her, her family was everything. She valued them so much in her life...it was like they were as valuable as the stars in the sky. She lost a huge part of herself when her only grandparents left her in this world. They were her support, the only thing she regretted was them not knowing how much they truly meant to her. They were very jovial people, who often acted quite childish for their age but they were very wise and she wished that the higher power would have never taken them away from her while she was still quite young.
She then turned to four special guys who she would’ve never thought could’ve helped her during this time, even if they never met each other personally. These guys had their own huge fandom which she realised was just as worth as being with family. There’s so much love in a small and simple fandom that could just turn your life towards happiness. She then met this very special person in the fandom who she vowed to never forget. This person was always there for her. There could never be anyone who could replace this wonderful person in her life.
She was completely content with the way her life was. That’s when the higher power had something else decided for her. She then completely lost everything when the most special person in her life left her: Her loving mother. She was the only person who stood up for her always and would always stand by her. She loved her even more than she loved music. She hated the fact that she was a person who bottled up her feelings so much that no one ever knew how much she prized everyone in her life. Her mother was, is, and will always be her world.
It was then she realised that her mother had been right the whole time; her sister would be the only one remaining for her. She and her sister were not unlike many siblings you would find, they bickered like there was no tomorrow. Their pride, always came in between. Her sister was a wonderful person who, she felt, was never appreciated enough. She never realised how much she loved her sister until then.
After the wonderful roller coaster ride of life, she was at her final destination...death. She laid on her deathbed in the hospital, finally letting herself go through all her special memories of life...when she decided to leave letters for her loving daughters, both who were so distraught that they felt that they would never be happy ever again. She then thought about all the times she felt like that after she lost her mother. That is when she realised that life is actually quite simple...once you’ve learnt how to organise and figure it out. She then left the world at peace, having accomplished everything she wanted to.
Moral- Never distance yourself from the people who may care for you.
Author's Note: This short story was written when I was in 9th grade, as an entry for The Times Of India short story writing contest. Due to word limit I was asked to cut it much shorter and I guess that messed up my entry!
Loved it ❤️
